Safe Beginning’s Infant/Child CPR, Choking, and Injury Prevention Course

When I find a parent hack or product that is a game-changer in the mamahood, I have to share the love.

This product is a MUST. As parents, we shudder at the thought of anything terrible happening to our children … so much so that we often push the thought out of our minds. But the reality is that children get hurt and we need to be prepared.

Picture this: You are at the park on a nice, Spring day. Your toddler is happily climbing up the playground stairs and going down the slide on repeat. You are sitting on a blanket, spooning a delicious mush into your 7 month old’s mouth. Suddenly, baby’s eyes go wide and they start choking.

Ask yourself: Would you rather wait for 911 to show up while you have to helplessly stand by? Or would you rather be able to confidently and calmly (though adrenaline-filled, for sure) provide emergency care for your 7 month old until 911 arrives?

How do you acquire these skills? Enter Safe Beginnings.

Here is why I love Safe Beginning’s Infant/Child CPR, Choking, and Injury Prevention Course and would recommend investing in one for you and your family:

1. It prepares you for emergencies.

  • This course teaches you what to do if your child ever goes unconscious, stops breathing, or starts choking.

  • It also covers practical ways to prevent common injuries and emergencies from happening.

  • Holly and Jill (the course instructors) know what they are talking about. Their qualifications are numerous (see for yourself on their website), and include being nationally-certified first-aid instructors with the Canadian Red Cross and BC Lifesaving Society

    2. It is accessible.

  • You can learn in the way that best suits you. Holly and Jill offer courses in public locations across British Columbia, and online in a recorded video or live webinar format. You can also contract them to teach a group of you and your mama friends.

  • This course comes with resources! Stick those first aid steps on the fridge for easy-access in case of an emergency.

  • If you are attending a live course, pre-mobile babies can attend with you. No need to worry about skipping a nap or feed.

  • The E-course is closed captioned and transcribed for participants that are hearing impaired, or who having baby napping on their chest while they view the course.

    3. It is efficient.

  • This course is 2 hours. It won’t take a whole day or weekend of time to complete.

  • While this course is informative, it won’t overwhelm you with information, but instead give you the need-to-know facts and steps in ways that are easy to remember.

  • Holly and Jill offer several preview videos on their website, so you can get a sense of whether or not this course is right for you!

    4. It is affordable.

  • This course is not going to break the bank. Prices range from $50-65 USD depending on which presentation format you choose.

The drawbacks of the product?

  • There is no certification offered with this course … but they do offer other first-aid certified course options, and if you need proof of participation for an employer or adoption agency, they can do that.

  • There are no other drawbacks here. When it comes to safety, understanding what to do and how to stay calm while doing it are invaluable. Go sign up!
